Puduraya Bus Station, Kuala Lumpur
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Puduraya
Bus Terminal is closed (from April 13 for at least four months) for
massive upgrading and renovation works . North and south-bound
travellers are now to board buses at the Bukit Jalil Complex Parking Lot
F (adjacent to the Bukit Jalil hockey stadium) . RapidKL Shuttle buses
from Puduraya to Bukit Jalil and vice-versa are available at a fee of
RM2 with a frequency of 15 minutes . While Bukit Jalil accommodates
North and South-bound travellers, those heading to the East Coast should
go to Hentian Putra. For details, call 03-2078 6018 or 03-2078 7017
This hot, confusing, clamorous express bus-and-taxi station is centrally located on Jl Pudu. You can get to Puduraya bus station by taking the Star LRT to Plaza Rakyat station. It is also within walking distance from KL Chinatown (100 meters). You can’t miss it – if you do, the touts will surely find you anyway.
There are only two long distance destinations that Puduraya Bus Station doesn’t handle. These destinations are Jerantut (the jumping off point for Taman Negara National Park) and Kuala Lipis (Kenong Rimba State Park). Therefore you will have to be at bus station in the North of Kuala Lumpur, just off Jl Tun Razak (close to Tun Razak Star LRT Station).
When you enter Puduraya bus station, you will see the Tourist Police office; opposite is an information counter. At the rear is a counter for left luggage (7:00-22:00 2RM/piece/day. Closed for lunch break!). There is also an ATM on the right side of the staircase.
Going up the staircase in Puduraya bus station you’ll come to the second floor. Go right and in the left corner you’ll find all kinds of ticket offices. Be sure to check the departure time of the bus, as many will try to sell tickets for buses that aren’t leaving for many hours.
The biggest and most reliable bus company by far is the Government’s Transnational Express with offices all over Malaysia. Transnational Express buses are often slower than private companies, but that’s because they’re safer and more reliable. NiCE Plusliner also covers a lot of destination and is sometimes cheaper.
Buses leave from numbered platforms in the basement, and note that you will have to look for the name of the bus company rather than your destination.
Daily several buses from different companies will depart to your destination, however tickets should preferably be booked at least the day before, and a few days before peak holiday periods, especially to the Cameron Highlands and east-coast destinations.

Taxi
If you want to take a taxi out of Kuala Lumpur to long distance destination (often not faster than taking a bus) Puduraya bus station is the right place to get one. Taxis depart from upstairs at Puduraya bus station. Fares are negotiable, depending on the distance.
But the taxi won’t leave the terminal until it has four passengers. Malaysians use this service mostly only at peak travel periods, so you could be waiting for some time for a cab to fill up. Otherwise you’ll have to charter a whole taxi.
